Class Date/Time: Saturday, December 7, 2024, 1:00pm-4:00pm
Class Location Address: New Mexico Bead Company 4111 Louisianna Blvd. NE Albuquerque, NM
Mari Mikkelsen:
Mari started beading and silversmithing in high school. During her 14 years in The Netherlands (’74 – ‘88) she became enamored with crocheting, where it seemed, every other house had beautiful filet-crocheted curtains. That influenced her to learn (in Dutch) how to crochet and designed curtains and other items for her dike-house in the north of Holland.
Ten years after returning home to Albuquerque, she moved to Phoenix and began taking various jewelry classes such as metalsmithing, enameling, etching, gem setting, metal forming, dichroic glass fusing, and lapidary. Over the last 25 years, she’s taken and taught many jewelry classes and has won awards in various art shows, including Best of Show in the Crochet category at the 2023 State Fair and at the Fiber Arts Festival this past April for one of her ‘complex’ doilies.
